French 1 Letter to Parents Chapter 7 Objectives Les Vêtements

Dear Parents,
Your child in French 1 has started a new Unit. We are in the 7th Chapter of curriculum, which is Clothing and Fashion. Students who study another language improve their first language skills. They become more aware of the world around them and they learn to appreciate diversity.
In chapter 7, students will be learning how to:
Identify and describe articles of clothing.
State color and size preferences.
Shop for clothing.
Describe people’s activities.
Compare people and things.
Express opinions and make observations.
Discuss clothes and clothes shopping in the French-speaking world.

You can help your child be successful in his or her study of French even if your are not familiar with the language. Here are a few suggestions to help your child practice the material in this chapter.

While your child is learning the clothing vocabulary, spend a few minutes together each evening looking at pictures of clothing in magazines. Have your child write the French name for the different items of clothing next to the pictures. you can make this activity more challenging by having your child write a short sentence about which styles and clothing he or she prefers.

Feel free to plan other activities you think will help your child’s language skills. Thank you for supporting our classroom work.

Cordially,
Monsieur

You can help your child be successful in his/her study of French even if you are not familiar with the language. Here are some suggestions:

As you prepare to do your weekly shopping, have your child write the grocery list fro your in French. There will likely be words that s/he does not know, so this is a great chance for the two of you to find out together how to say those words in French. If there are any items that do not have direct French equivalents, use French to English dictionaries or Wordreference.com to figure out what the French substitute might be.

Feel free to plan other activities you think will help your child develop his/her language skills. THank your supporting our classroom work.
